Determining Your Face Shape
Finding out what shape your face is couldn’t be easier; all you need is a mirror, something which will write on (and wipe off) it, and maybe something to push long hair away from your face. You can use a dry erase marker, lipstick, or cheap concealer to trace the outline of your face (head on) onto the mirror. Once you’ve done this all you need to do is cross-reference it with our shape guides:
Heart shaped faces
A heart shaped face will be widest at the forehead, and narrow all the way to the chin. If you have a heart shaped face you can be sure you’ll look best in frames which mimic that trend. Sunglasses in cat eye, sports inspired, and wayfarer style frames will really complement your face.
Rounded faces
Round faces are widest across the cheeks, and narrow a bit at the top and bottom (forehead and jawline), and they deal very well with oversized frames (very Hollywood cool!). Rectangular and angular shapes are best; cat eye and wayfarer styles will balance out the roundness of your face for a sleek and stylish look.
Oval shaped faces
If you have an oval shaped face, longer than it is wide, you’re lucky enough to be able to consider most styles. Nonetheless square and round frames work the best, so aviators and wayfarers will look particularly good. Avoid oversized sunglasses, however, as they will do you no justice.
Square faces
Square faces can be recognised by wide foreheads, strong jawlines, and wide, prominent cheekbones. Such shapes need softer lines to complement their structure; aviator, round, and shield frames will work well, particularly if they have rimless edges.
