Foods That Help Sun Damage

According to Marie Claire Magazine, there are some foods that can help to protect your skin from damage caused by overexposure to the sun. If you are the kind of person who has ever gotten sunburned to the point where you look somewhat like a lobster, you might want to take some notes! According to the article, there are some foods that are both full of antioxidants and super healthy which can help you and your skin to recover from sunburn.

Fish Rich in Omega 3

Fatty fish has an excellent amount of Omega-3, which gives the skin some wonderful internal protection from the damaging rays of the sun. Examples that are particularly good for you include red-hued seafood such as wild salmon. That is because it has astaxanthin, an anti-oxidant that decreases the risks from sun exposure. Also, all types of fish have protein and selenium in them, which is known for helping the cells in the skin to repair.

Green Tea

Green-Tea

You likely are not interested in having hot drinks during the summer, so why not cool it with ice for a lush refreshment. Green tea has a powerful anti-oxidant in it, known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). This is useful in fighting inflammation to the skin. It is good with neutralising free radicals, which in turn makes it harder for them to damage skin. Wrinkles and other skin issues may be prevented, as well. Black tea may help too, since it has quercetin that can protect skin.

Cherries

If you have cherries for a snack or as part of your dessert, it can help protect you against UV radiation. One kind in particular that is ideal is Montmorency cherries, because they contain the anti-oxidant melatonin. The cherry also has been found to be useful at repairing sunburned skin as it stimulates the skin cells to grow. All cherries have Vitamin C, which is key for keeping wrinkles from forming and building up collagen. However, the glacier cherry they add to your cocktail does not count!!

Pomegranate

Pomegranate

Add the seeds of this amazing fruit to a delicious salad to help your body prepare for those summer rays. Pomegranate contains a great deal of anti-oxidants, and it also has benefits when it comes to preventing inflammation. There are nutrients in the fruit that are instrumental in keeping UVB rays from producing cancerous damage to skin.

Mushrooms

Selenium is found in crimini mushrooms, which is a nutrient that works to protect the skin. It is crucial when it comes to producing glutathione peroxidase. This anti-oxidant helps keep free radicals from damaging your skin when you have spent time sunbathing. They have Vitamin B to help your skin create new cells.
