Increasing and understanding your self motivation can have a positive effect on just about every area in your life. There are many good reasons to improve your self motivation. It will help you to have better organization skills, more confidence and self esteem and will have a positive effect on your time management skills.

What Motivates You?

What Motivates You?

As an individual we all have our own unique way of looking at the world and this can obviously influence how we are motivated by different things and at different periods in our lives. You need to make sure you understand what makes you want to do something, which is sometimes easier said than done. Motivations do and can change frequently, and with them our desires, needs and goals can evolve as well. Most tasks we undertake have a combination of two types of motivators: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic motivation, which includes gaining a reward such as money, power or good grades is the main motivator in our jobs and careers, while intrinsic motivation, which includes having fun, being interested in something or feeling personally challenged is usually what drives us in our personal life. The best careers, however, are those with a balance of extrinsic and intrinsic motivators.

Love Your Job

You may not be completely content with your current job, but try to concentrate on the positive aspects of it and you may find yourself a lot happier and more motivated. Loving your job can also make dealing with long hours and stress a lot more tolerable. We all know it has been said thousands of times before, but when you love what you do for an income, you will look forward to your day and probably it won’t even feel like work, making your day go by in a happy way rather than dragging on. You will soon find that self motivation comes more and more naturally.

Always try to maintain a positive attitude and view any setbacks you encounter as opportunities to grow and learn. Make sure you surround yourself with optimistic, enthusiastic individuals who will motivate you to stay focused. As procrastination is seen as the big enemy, vow to keep striving towards your goals until you achieve them. Make sure you are aware of your own strengths and weaknesses and do what you can to enhance or minimize them. Always stay curious and try to gain new information by chatting with people you find interesting, reading and studying. Keep track of what you’d like to achieve and do what you can to make it happen!
